The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in its convention on 16.12.1966 to which India is a party deeply felt that there has been growing concern in our country and abroad about issues relating to human rights. Keeping in view the changing social realities and the emerging challenges to combat the nature of crime and violence the Government of India after wide ranging discussions on the subject at various fora including Chief Ministers’ Conference on human rights, seminars organized in various parts of the country and meeting with leaders of various political parties and considering the urgency of the matter had introduced the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance, 1993. Consequently, the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 (for short ‘Act of 1993’) was enacted by the Parliament in the 57thyears of the Republic of India.
The Government of Tripura had set up Tripura Human Rights Commission to achieve the objectives and to safeguard the fundamental rights of the people of the State as embodied in the Act of 1993.
The Tripura Human Rights Commission is committed to protecting and promoting human rights in our State. As Chairperson of this esteemed Commission, I strive to ensure that every individual is treated with dignity and respect, and their rights are safeguarded in line with the spirit and ethos embodied in various provisions of our Constitution. Our team is dedicated to investigating any complaint and working towards justice.
